Missouri DHSS reports 138 COVID-19 associated deaths in weekly update

Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is reporting 138 COVID-19 associated deaths after analyzing several death certificates in the state’s disease surveillance system.

Communication Director Lisa Cox says the deaths "had not already been reported to the state by another entity, will be captured and reported publicly through the dashboard Tuesday morning."

Officials say three deaths occurred in Sept., 123 occurred in Oct. and 12 of the deaths occurred in Nov.

According to officials, when these associated deaths are reported they show a jump in deaths in the state. However, these updates used to come on Friday, showing a spike in deaths on Saturday; DHSS will now show the report on Monday.

According to the Missouri dashboard, there have been 53 deaths in the past week with an average of around eight a day. The 53 deaths in the last seven days is ranked 16th overall. The ranking represents Missouri vs. other US states by the number of total new deaths.

The State of Missouri has a reported 3,153 COVID-19 deaths.

The state dashboard shows the change in percentage of deaths as -55.8%.
