WEDNESDAY UPDATES: One county removes a COVID-19 death, another county removes cases
UPDATE 8:10 P.M.: Cooper County is removing a previously reported death because according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services "individuals who do not have COVID-19 or corona virus listed in the primary or secondary cause of death will not be counted as COVID-19 related."

Students to return to Jefferson City middle schools Monday
UPDATE 11:55 A.M.: The Jefferson City School District said Wednesday that students will return to Lewis and Clark and Thomas Jefferson middle schools next week after being out because of a coronavirus-related staff shortage.
The schools switched to online-only learning two weeks ago, citing the number of staff who were in quarantine because of exposure to the coronavirus.
"The Jefferson City School District (JC Schools) believes the past two weeks of distance learning for our middle schools have served to stop any spread of COVID-19 within the school environment and allow time for current cases and quarantines to run their course," the district said in an email announcing the decision Wednesday.
The district said it is vital for families and staff to follow guidelines such as social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing masks to reduce the spread of the virus. The district has reported 177 cases of the virus since school began. Another 269 students and staff have at some point been deemed close contacts.

Missouri reports 1,200+ new COVID-19 cases
UPDATE 8:48 A.M.: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services updated its count of COVID-19 cases Wednesday morning.
Since the pandemic started, 160,869 Missourians have tested positive for coronavirus, up 1,244 from Tuesday.
The department's COVID-19 dashboard said 26 more people have died because of COVID-19 bringing the state's total to 2,641.
Department officials said a little more than 12,000 people were tested over the last 24 hours.
Missouri ranked sixth in the nation for new COVID-19 cases and deaths over the last seven days, the dashboard said. Both positions fell since the website was updated Tuesday.
The health department has started calculating the state's coronavirus positivity rate using two methods.
According to department data, the positivity rate was 10.7% when dividing the number of tests by the number of positive results over the last seven days. It was also 21% using the same method but without counting people who were previously tested before the seven-day period.
At least 1,415 state residents were hospitalized because of COVID-19 as of Sunday. The seven-day average for virus-related hospitalizations was 1,424.
The dashboard said a change in how hospitalizations are reported from the US health department caused an under-reporting of hospitalizations on Tuesday and will affect the number going forward.
