TUESDAY UPDATES: Linn High School moves to modified schedule due to COVID-19 cases

UPDATE 7:15 P.M.: Osage County R-II School District is moving to hybrid learning the next two weeks at Linn High school due to positive COVID-19 cases.

According to the letter sent home to parents, 9 & 10 grades will be in-person learning on Oct. 7, 9, 14 and 16. 11 and 12 grades will be in-person learning on Oct. 8, 13 and 15. On the other days will be virtual learning for the grades.

All after school activities and athletics are canceled through Oct. 9.

The district will reevaluate at the end of this week; with the hope of reinstating junior high athletics and events next week.

The district's coronavirus dashboard shows seven active cases among high school students and staff and two active cases among elementary school students and staff.

According to the dashboard, there are currently seven active cases at the high school and two at the elementary school.

40 percent of students in quarantine at South Park Elementary in Moberly

UPDATE: 5:20 P.M.: Moberly Public School District has sent a letter to parents that they are closing South Park Elementary as 40-percent of students at the school are now in quarantine.

According to the letter, three more students tested positive at the school. This has led three staff members and 24 students to be placed into quarantine.

The district will close the building through Friday, October 16.

In-seat students at the elementary will begin online learning Tuesday morning at 9 with their classroom teachers.

This does not affect any other buildings or students already participating online.

Boone County reports 48 new COVID-19 recoveries

UPDATE 4:55 P.M.: Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services has updated their daily numbers.

According to the report, the number of positive novel coronavirus cases has gone up by 33 from 4,934 to 4,967 total.

The health department has reported no new deaths in the county and 48 recoveries, raising the total number of recoveries from 4,628 to 4,676.

The number of active cases has dropped 15 from 294 to 279 according to the report.

Currently, there are 66 patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Boone County. 13 of those cases are Boone County residents according to the updated board.

27 of the 66 patients are in the ICU. According to the dashboard update, 10 of the ICU patients are on ventilators.

There were seven new cases reported to the 18-22 age group. That brings the total of positive cases in that age group to 2,304 cases.

Missouri retains seventh-place ranking in COVID-19 cases

UPDATE 2:35 P.M.: Missouri's COVID-19 cases remain the seventh-most in the country over the last seven days while the state's total deaths fell in relation to other states.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 1,165 new coronavirus cases Tuesday for a total of 134,583 cases since the pandemic began in March. Deaths increased by 26 to reach 2,200.

The state reported 52 deaths between Sept. 27 and Saturday, which was the 15th most of any state in the country. The state was at No. 13 the day before, according to the health department's online COVID-19 dashboard.

The state's positivity rate in the week that ended Saturday was 14%. The state delays rates and case trend numbers for 72 hours.

Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 statewide increased slightly on Monday, bringing the seven-day average to 1,150. The record is 1,163, set Friday.

Hospitalizations in the state's central region were up slightly for an average of 104. The record is 106 on Friday. The average intensive care bed vacancy dropped Monday to the lowest level of the pandemic.

Dozens of Fulton Public Schools students and staff quarantined

UPDATE 11:27 A.M.: Dozens of Fulton Public Schools students and staff members were in quarantine Tuesday because of recent exposure to COVID-19.

The school district's website said 76 were quarantined and two others actively had coronavirus.

Non-essential personnel will not be allowed at district athletic events this week, according to the website.

Guidelines from the North Central Missouri Conference said players, coaches, referees, event and medical staff, as well as, the media will still be allowed at games. However, spectators will be limited.

Fulton High School's Homecoming is this week, according to the school's calendar. The Hornets are scheduled to play the Marshall Owls at 7 p.m. Friday night.

Cole County school districts report new cases

Two Cole County school districts are reporting new cases of COVID-19 as the return to in-person learning continues.

On Monday, Jefferson City School District reported two new students cases and five staff cases. From those cases, 10 students were sent to quarantine as close contacts.

Since Friday, Blair Oaks R-II School District has reported one student case along with an elementary paraprofessional and assistant high school football coach's positive tests. Those cases sent six students to quarantine.

Since the return to learn in August, Blair Oaks R-II School District has reported 11 cases of the virus and JC Schools has reported 108.
