FRIDAY UPDATES: Morgan County reports one new death; Moberly School District report new case

UPDATE 7:00 P.M.: Moberly School District is reporting one new COVID-19 case to a staff member.

The staff member was already in quarantine due to exposure outside the district.

No one else will be quarantined as a result of this positive case.

In Morgan County, the county health center is reporting the 11 death related to novel coronavirus.

Boone County reports record hospitalizations; CPS case rate drops

UPDATE 5:00 P.M.: A key COVID-19 case rate metric tracked by Columbia Public Schools continues to fall this Friday about.

The number of new COVID-19 cases over 14 days per 10,000 people in the district fell to 36.4 Friday. The number has been on a steady decline since peaking at 91.4 on Sept. 7. (The CPS 14-day rate was incorrectly cited. It has been updated to reflect the current percentage.)

District administrators set the benchmark for getting students back in classrooms part-time at 50. The district first went below that rate Sept. 21.

The Columbia Board of Education will discuss a return to classrooms with CPS officials on Tuesday. CPS leaders plan to make a formal recommendation to the board on Oct. 12.

CPS Superintendent Peter Stiepleman said at a special board meeting last week that the district would likely look to resume in-person classes the week after the board approves a plan.

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services reported 57 new COVID-19 cases Friday, continuing the trend that has pushed down the rate CPS tracks. The total case number is tied for the highest its been in a week.

The department reported 333 active cases in Boone County and 1,344 people in quarantine because of exposure to novel coronavirus.

Health officials report another dire record as there are 77 patients with COVID-19 in Boone County hospitals. Of those, 22 are in intensive care and eight are on ventilators.

JC Schools confirms new student, staff COVID-19 cases

UPDATE AT 3:40 P.M.: The Jefferson City School District reported two students and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

A post on the district's website said one student each at Jefferson City and Capital City high schools tested positive, as well as, a teacher at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

The district said the students also had three close contacts. Two students at Jefferson City High School and one other at Capital City were considered close contacts.

As of Thursday, 92 COVID-19 cases have been reported across the school district with 137 close contacts.

Tolton football game canceled because of COVID-19

Fr. Tolton High School said its football game scheduled for Friday night was canceled because of COVID-19.

A release from the Catholic high school said Duchesne High School's athletic program has had multiple positive tests this week.

On Monday, Battle High School canceled its game against Smith-Cotton for the same concerns.

It's unclear if Tolton will be able to make up the game.
