MONDAY UPDATES: Second COVID-19 case reported at Jefferson City High School

UPDATE 9:15 P.M.: The Jefferson City School District reported an additional COVID-19 case over the weekend.

According to the district's website, another student case was reported at Jefferson City High School on Saturday.

Last Thursday, the district reported five cases across the following five buildings: Capital City High School, Jefferson City High School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, Lawson Elementary and North Elementary,

The staff case at North Elementary is no longer in active quarantine, according to the website.

UPDATE 5:05 P.M.: The Columbia/Boone County Health Department recorded 87 new COVID-19 cases on Monday.

The new cases brings the county's total to 3,485 since March. Fifty-five of the new cases announced Monday came from the 18-22 age range.

The county reported two below-average days Sunday and Monday for new cases at 67 and 87 respectively. The preceding four days brought triple-digit increases. The county currently averages 124 new cases a day.

The health department said metrics such as tests done and positivity rate should be available following the Labor Day weekend.

Columbia Public Schools

The 14-day COVID-19 rate Columbia Public Schools uses to determine if classes will be held in in-person or online hit an all-time high over the weekend.

On Monday, Missouri added over 900 new COVID-19 cases.

According to school district data, the 14-day rate per 10,000 residents across the district's boundary was 86.7 on Saturday and 87.9 on Sunday.

District data said the rate has gone up everyday since Aug. 17.

CPS leaders voted to move classes fully online last week.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services tweeted the state added 906 new COVID-19 cases and one new coronavirus-related death on Labor Day.

The increase brought statewide cases to 94,340 and deaths to 1,659.

The health department the 7-day positivity rate stayed the same over the last 24 hours at 13.8%.

According to the department's COVID-19 dashboard, Boone County was included in Missouri top 10 counties for positivity increase over the last week. It said the county has seen a 28% increase in cases going up to 3,525 from 2,755 a week ago.
