WATCH: Boone County commissioner on COVID-19 case jump, mask requirement

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County Southern District Commissioner Fred Parry said Thursday that he supports face coverings as COVID-19 cases surge locally.

Parry appeared live on ABC 17 News at 5 to discuss the pandemic. The appearance followed Columbia/Boone County health authorities' announcement that cases hit a new daily record at 39.

Parry said he supports wearing face coverings but does not like the idea of having to mandate masks.

The Columbia City Council is set to vote Monday on an emergency measure requiring the use of masks in public and in businesses.
