Missouri unemployment claims increase as COVID-19 pandemic continues

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Labor announced Thursday that more than 100,000 Missourians filed for unemployment last week.

According to statewide data, 339,208 residents have filed for unemployment over the past four weeks.

The department of labor said the 101,722 workers that filed last week is up from 91,049 the week before.

The labor department said construction and office workers were among the hardest hit in March. The numbers show 3,878 construction workers and 2,918 office workers filed for unemployment last month.

Across the US, unemployment claims last week rose above 5.2 million. The US Labor Department said about 22 million workers, roughly 13.5% of the country's labor force, have filed for unemployment.
