COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An inmate at the Cooper County Jail was found dead on Friday in a cell, according to a Monday social media post from the Cooper County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said Brooke Bailey, of Jefferson City, was found dead on Friday. She was 33. The post says she was being held on a court-ordered commit to the Department of Mental Health.

The office says an investigation into the incident is ongoing and an autopsy has been scheduled. The sheriff's office said in the post that the Pettis County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation.

ABC 17 News has reached out to the Cooper County Sheriff's Office. Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders stated in an email that there "are no details to share as this is an open and active investigation."
