Virginia trucker suffers serious injuries in crash on slick Interstate 70
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The driver of a tractor-trailer suffered serious injuries when his truck skidded and slammed into the rear of another tractor-trailer Thursday morning on icy Interstate 70.
Maurice Thomas, 21, of Roanoke, Virginia, skidded when he encountered congestion at the 89-mile marker in Cooper County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. An ambulance took Thomas to University Hospital.
The driver of the other truck was not hurt.
Traffic on I-70 was slowed in several places throughout the day Thursday after a winter storm dumped ice and snow on Mid-Missouri. The patrol's Troop F said Thursday that it had responded to two injury accidents. The other, in Callaway County, resulted in only minor injuries.
The Missouri Department of Transportation's travel information map showed I-70 was clear Friday afternoon from Cooper County east into Callaway County.
