First of several community mental health sessions scheduled for Saturday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The first of several community mental health sessions in Columbia will take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Hanover Village Community Center.

Columbia Office of Violence Prevention Administrator D’Markus Thomas-Brown confirmed the first date on Tuesday.

The city approved a $21,000 contract with TMT Consulting last month to provide six trauma-informed and community mental health training sessions across the city, according to previous reporting.

Previous reporting says sessions will focus on adverse childhood experiences, grief healing and trauma response.

Training sessions will be held in four identified Neighborhood Opportunity and Community Accountability Proconsul areas, with the two remaining sessions held if demand exceeds capacity, previous reporting says. Sessions will be held every other month until the limit of six is reached. Each session is limited to 30 participants.
