Columbia minor charged with six felonies for 2024 shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A 17-year-old from Columbia was charged Tuesday with six felonies in connection with a November 2024 shooting.
Ja'Mez Thompson-Bey was in the Boone County Jail without bond on two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and single counts of unlawful use of a weapon and armed robbery.
Thompson-Bey is accused of shooting two people who were sitting in a vehicle at The Links apartment complex. The two victims, each of whom was shot in the leg, told police that a man approached their vehicle and began firing the night of Nov. 23, according to a probable cause statement.
A witness told police the shooter demanded everything the victims had, the statement says. Another witness said he fired back at the shooter, who apparently ran away, police say.
Thompson-Bey was also hit. He tried to give the fake name "Anthony Harris" when he went to the emergency room by private vehicle but his grandmother called the hospital and identified him, the statement says.
One of the shooting victims identified Thompson-Bey by his first name for police and investigators verified his identity by looking at Instagram, according to the statement.
Police arrested Thompson-Bey at the hospital. No hearings have been set in his criminal case.
