COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

MU Health Care told employees Friday that it is increasing security amid a national threat made to mid-size hospitals.

The threat, which was posted on social media, reportedly involves ISIS-K planning to place car bombs outside mid-size American hospitals with relatively low security. University Hospital fits that description.

"While there’s no verification of the credibility of this threat, we take all security concerns seriously and are proactively enhancing our security measures," MU Health Care CEO Ric Ransom wrote in an email to staff.

MU Health will increase its security presence at its buildings, enhance surveillance and monitoring for suspicious activities and work closely with law enforcement. Employees are asked to report anything suspicious, Ransom wrote.

"We understand that news of such threats can be unsettling, but please know that we are taking every precaution to ensure a safe environment," Ransom wrote. "We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed."
