Water main break on West Ash Street impacts ARC, 86 Columbia water customers

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A water main break near the Columbia Farmers Market has led to Columbia Water and Light to announce a boil advisory for 86 customers.

City Utilities spokesman Matt Nestor wrote in an email that a 12-inch cast iron main broke around 2:45 p.m. and that the outage will last "at least a few hours."

Columbia Water and Light wrote on its social media that impacted customers will receive a hang tag on their residence. The Activity and Recreation Center on West Ash Street wrote on its social media that it is currently without water while repairs are being  made.

The entrance to the ARC from West Ash Street is closed while crews work, the post says. Indoor restrooms and water fountains are not available and the ARC is working to rent out port-o-potties, the post says. The Water Zone is closed.

Columbia Water and Light wrote that residents should boil water for three minutes before drinking it and to not use ice from an automatic ice maker.
