COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A portion of I-70 Drive Southeast at North East Lane at the eastern edge of Columbia was closed Tuesday while firefighters responded to a fire.

First responders had the intersection blocked off before 5 p.m. Boone County Joint Communications sent a notification at 4:46 p.m. stating that the area was closed because of a fire incident.

An ABC 17 New photographer could see smoke in the area.

A power outage impacting four Boone Electric customers was reported at 4:54 p.m., according to the Boone Electric outage map. A crew was assigned to the scene.

Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp told ABC 17 News in a text that a garage and its contents were considered a total loss. Roughly $100,000 in damage was estimated, Blomenkamp wrote.

He said that the building was difficult to get to because of snow and that a lack of water in the area made it harder on firefighters.
