Amended Gans Creek Recreation area surface trail measure passes Columbia City Council

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City Council on Monday night authorized some construction on a proposed trail in south Columbia.

The council approved an amended plan to build 6 miles of new surface trails in the Gans Creek Recreation area. The council plans to look at the rest of the plan later. The original plan included more than 10 miles of trails.

Parks and Recreation Director Gabe Huffington said 9 miles of natural surface trails will end up being built.

A number of people spoke for and against the plan during a nearly two-hour public comment. Activists have called for delaying the vote in order to gather more information.
