Christmas holiday to impact trash pickup in Columbia, Jefferson City, Boonville, Fulton

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

State and city offices will be closed on Christmas Day, and some changes will occur this week for services such as trash pickup.

Trash pickup will not occur on Wednesday for the holiday in several area cities, including Columbia, Jefferson City, Fulton and Boonville. All trash pickup for the rest of the week will be delayed by one day after the holiday in Columbia, Jefferson City and Boonville, according to information from each city’s website. Wednesday’s pickup will occur on Thursday in Fulton, according to its solid waste schedule.

Public transportation will also be impacted in Columbia and Jefferson City. Bus routes for GO COMO and JEFFTRAN, each cities respective bus service, will not run on Christmas Day and will resume the following day. Metered parking for streets and parking garages will not be enforced.

Additionally, the City of Columbia wrote in press release last week that the Activity and Recreation Center will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, will be closed all of Wednesday and will reopen on Thursday. Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services will be closed Wednesday and will reopen with normal hours on Friday.

For Christmas tree disposal:

The City of Columbia wrote that live trees without decorations and tree stands can be dropped off at yard-waste drop-off centers at Capen Park, Parkside or the landfill. Trash customers can also cut their trees into smaller pieces and put it into their roll cart, the release says. The release also says that those who are looking to get rid of their artificial trees should throw them out in their normal trash and that they cannot be recycled.

In Jefferson City, the city wrote on its website that live trees without decorations or artificial snow can be dropped off at Washington Park at the Vivion Field entrance. Tress can be turned into mulch or compost at the location from Dec. 26-Jan. 31. Live trees can also be dropped off at the free yard waste site at 708 Ellis Blvd.

In Boonville, residents and bring real Christmas trees to the yard waste area behind the City Services building at 1200 Locust St., according to the city's website.
