COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A portion of Silvey Street will be closed through the winter season, according to a Wednesday press release from the City of Columbia.

The street will be closed between I-70 Drive Southwest and the entrance to the Sprout Academy Preschool, the release indicates.

“The steep incline on the north end of Silvey Street poses significant challenges during winter, with slippery conditions often developing without warning,” the release says. In the past, temporary barricades were used to block access, but these were sometimes moved by unauthorized individuals. To prevent this, the City has replaced the barricades with gates to ensure the closure remains effective.”

The release recommends that drivers use North Stadium Boulevard or Route ZZ as alternative routes to connect to West Worley Street
