COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A restaurant that closed after a fire caused damage to a building over a year ago is reopening in Downtown Columbia.

The District wrote on its social media that Tellers will reopen Thursday at the corner of Ninth Street and Broadway.

"It’s happening! @tellers.como is opening tomorrow, Thursday Nov 7th! Columbias beloved second home is finally back. See you at the corner of 9th and Broadway in The District!" The District wrote.

The restaurant was displaced after a fire broke out on Sept. 15, 2023, at the top floor of its building, which housed the offices for the True/False Film Fest. The fire was ruled accidental by fire officials. The cause of the fire was unknown, but officials said a microwave used before the fire could have been a possible reason.

The fire caused $250,000 in damage to the building and another $100,000 in damage to its contents, according to a fire report. Everyone got out of the building unharmed but firefighters were treated for heat exposure. The fire closed down major Downtown Columbia streets for several hours on the day of the fire.

On the day of the fire, Columbia Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeffrey Heidenreich had told ABC 17 News that Tellers sustained significant water damage.

A spokesperson for True/False told ABC 17 News in an email on Wednesday that they are “not sure what's next for the second floor,” of the building. The Ragtag Film Society doesn't own the space above Tellers, they wrote. After the fire, True/False continued operations out of Ragtag's building on Hitt Street. They now also have offices at the Guitar Building, located at the corner of Eighth and Walnut streets.
