Report: Alcohol, pedestrian improperly crossing street could have led to fatal August crash
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A report from the Columbia Police Department indicates alcohol could have played a role in a northeast Columbia fatal crash.
According to previous reporting, Tristen Crawford, 24, of Columbia was hit around 8 p.m. Aug. 8 in the 4600 block of Paris Road by a vehicle that was traveling south. He died at an area hospital.
According to a crash report, Crawford was crossing the road in an area with no signal or crosswalk. Possible contributing factors include alcohol and Crawford standing improperly in the roadway, the report says.
The report says he was hit by a 2005 Mercury Sable. The name of the driver was redacted. The report says the Mercury was heading south while Crawford was heading east over the roadway. The driver stopped once they noticed their car hit something, the report says.
The driver allegedly told police that she was driving around 50 miles per hour and did not see anyone in the road, the report says. A passenger in the vehicle claimed they did not see what happened because they were looking down at their cellphone, the report says.
Another driver described as a witness allegedly told police that he was heading north in a vehicle and slowed down to avoid crashing into Crawford, the report says.
Another witness while was traveling behind the Mercury claimed they also did not see Crawford crossing the road, but saw him following the collision, the report says.
