Columbia police respond to multiple shots-fired calls over weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

At least two people were hospitalized due to shootings after police responded to four calls of shots heard and four calls of shots fired this past weekend.

Between Oct.18-21, CPD responded to three shots-fired calls in the 1600 Block of West Business Loop 70 and one call at the 3900 block of Clark Lane, according to the online six-hour dispatch log. All three calls on West Business Loop 70 occurred between 11:03 p.m. Saturday-12:07 a.m. Sunday.

CPD spokesperson Jenny Hooper said police found no evidence of shots fired during the first call at 11:03 p.m. and that the other two calls that occurred within 15 minutes of each other were related.

According to a press release from the Columbia Police Department. The shooting happened at around 11:55 p.m. Friday night. Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of West Business Loop 70. Police found that a man had been shot and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release. Police also added the victim was attending a large unauthorized event in a City park. Cosmo Park is the only city park located on the 1600 block of West Business Loop 70.

The park is no stranger to shooting incidents. Dispatch logs show that since January, police have responded to six shots fired calls and one shots-heard call. Last year officers responded to a total of 211 calls near the park between January-October.

Police also responded to four shots heard calls over the weekend. On Friday, police responded to Bethel and West Nifong Boulevard just before 8 p.m. but found no evidence of shots fired. CPD also responded to shots heard calls near Monroe Street and Paris Road and the 400 block of North Providence Road, but once again found no evidence of shots fired. Each call occurred around 3:30 am.

Police did find evidence of shots fired Sunday evening after they closed off a large section of Clark Lane in northeast Columbia after a man was shot, suffering life-threatening injuries.

Columbia Police Department spokesman Brian McNeill said police were called a little before 11 p.m. after shots were heard in the 4200 block of Clark Lane. A man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, he said.

He said a little after 1 a.m. Monday that no suspects were in custody and that there was no threat to the public.

ABC 17 News saw at least eight Columbia Police Department cruisers and Boone County Sheriff's Office cruisers at McKee and Clark. An ambulance was seen leaving the area.
