Street closures announced for MU Homecoming Parade, Go COMO routes delayed
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The University of Missouri’s Homecoming takes place on Saturday and its annual parade will require some street closures.
The parade begins 8 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Tiger Avenue and Rollins Street, according to a Thursday press release from the City of Columbia.
The parade then goes east on Rollins Street, north on Hitt Street, west on University Avenue, north on South Ninth Street, west on East Broady and turns south to Cherry Street, where the parade will end, the release says.
A sensory-friendly area will be located at South Fifth Street between East Broadway and Cherry Street, the release says.
“In this area, parade participants are encouraged to keep noise levels low, avoid using bright or flashing lights and refrain from honking horns. Doing so will ensure a more comfortable experience for all attendees,” according to the release.
Parking
Parking garages in Downton Columbia are free on weekends, and begins at 6 p.m. Friday.
The release says the top level of the Fifth and Walnut Parking Garage will be closed “for security purposes.”
Public transportation
On Saturday, Go COMO’s fixed route bus and paratransit services will start at noon because of the parade.
“Once the parade is completed, event-goers are welcome to board free Go COMO game day route shuttles to travel to the football game. Buses will take passengers from the downtown area to the roundabout at the intersection of Tiger Avenue and Hospital Drive from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. Return trips to the downtown area start at the end of the third quarter,” the release says.
Kickoff is at 11 a.m. Saturday.

From 6-9:30 p.m. Friday, streets in the Greektown area near campus will be closed so pedestrians can view homecoming decorations, the release says.
The release says the following streets will be closed:
- Rollins Street from South Providence Road to Tiger Avenue
- Burnam Avenue from South Providence Road to Richmond Avenue
- Curtis Avenue from Burnam Avenue to Kentucky Boulevard
- Richmond Avenue from Rollins Street to Kentucky Boulevard
- Kentucky Boulevard from South Providence Road to Tiger Avenue
