Work to start on Highway 63 in Columbia next week
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Work to redesign the Interstate 70/Highway 63 connector as part of the I-70 widening project will begin next week, the Missouri Department of Transportation said Monday.
The interchange work includes building two new bridges on Highway 63. MoDOT says Highway 63 traffic between the Broadway overpass and the Conley Road underpass will be narrowed and routed head-to-head while the work continues.
Traffic control will begin next Monday, MoDOT says. Two lanes will be open in each direction but narrowed to 10 feet wide with a lower speed limit. Highway 63 ramps will remain open but will be reconfigured, MoDOT says.
Rebuilding the interchange is part of a broader project to widen I-70 through much of the state, starting with the stretch between Kingdom City and Columbia. The full project is budgeted at $2.8 billion and will improve about 200 miles of interstate.
