A Boone County man was charged with first-degree domestic assault on Tuesday after he allegedly strangled a woman during an attack on Thursday.

Michael Tyrone Richardson, 57, was booked into the Boone County Jail at 12:42 a.m. Tuesday and is being held without bond. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement, Columbia police spoke with the victim at University Hospital on Thursday, July 25. Police wrote that the victim was in “obvious pain” and had several injuries, including cuts and swelling, the statement says.

The victim allegedly told police that Richardson strangled her with both hands before she ran to the garage of the home, the statement says. Richardson then strangled her again and continued to assault her, the statement says.
