BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man died in a crash that occurred Tuesday morning at mile marker 117 on Interstate 70, a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report states.

The report states that a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia tractor trailer – driven by Derson Jeanlouis, 36, of Brandon, Florida – was in the eastbound lane of Interstate 70 when it started to slow down because of another crash that was ahead of it.

A 2014 Chevrolet Impala – driven by Joshua Hulse, 22, of Columbia – hit the back of the tractor trailer and “became lodged under the trailer,” the report states.

Hulse was pronounced dead at the scene by the Boone County medical examiner, the report says.

There were two passengers in the Chevy: Johnathan Wolfe, 21, of Sturgeon, and Austin Pitford, 23, of Ozark. Both passengers had minor injuries and were brought to University Hospital by ambulance, the report says.

Jeanlouis had no reported injuries. The drivers and passengers were all wearing seatbelts, the report says.  The Chevrolet was totaled, while the tractor trailer had minor damage.
