Naloxone education and distribution event held at The Blue Note

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A naloxone education and distribution event was held Wednesday at The Blue Note in Columbia.

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services staff provided training to those who attended on how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer the nasal spray NARCAN on victims.

The event is part of a monthly series typically held at the PHHS building on Worley Street. It features education and training on the use of naloxone -- also known by the brand name NARCAN -- a drug that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Data from the Drug Enforcement Administration states that nearly 108,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2022.
