Several shots heard again on Rice Road
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Shots were heard again on Rice Road on Monday afternoon at 4:35 p.m.
While reporting on the shooting scene that occurred on Sunday evening, an ABC 17 News reporter heard seven to nine gunshots ring out from the 4600 block of Rice Road.
The reporter saw two males run from Rice Road down Whispering Meadows Court. The report saw the two walk toward the 4500 block and then run in the opposite direction after shots could be heard. A neighbor said they saw someone go into a vehicle.
A Boone County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene, as well as four Columbia Police Department patrol vehicles.
This is the second instance of shots fired on that road in as many days. Police are investigating a fatal shooting on Sunday evening. Columbia police responded to a shots fired call at 10:20 p.m. in the 4300 block of Rice Road on Sunday. Police said in a Monday morning release that they found a man with a gunshot wound. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
Neighbors say that incidents in the area are not uncommon. According to dispatch logs in the past year (From May 26, 2023-May 26,2024) Columbia police have responded to 24 disturbance calls, 18 shots heard/ fired calls, two burglaries, two assaults, a robbery, and a death investigation on Rice Road.
On Ballenger Lane -- which is near Rice Road -- dispatch records show that Columbia police have responded to 21 disturbance calls, four shots heard/fired calls, two robberies and two burglaries in that same period.
