Eatwell Market in Columbia to become ‘traditional’ Schnucks
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Schnuck Markets Inc. announced in a Friday press release that it will convert the Eatwell Market on South Providence Road in Columbia to a “traditional” Schnucks location.
The company stated in the release that it will discontinue the Eatwell Market brand, which operated in Columbia and Chesterfield. The Chesterfield location will close on June 2.
The Columbia location opened in 2020 after Schnucks bought the location from Lucky’s in bankruptcy, the release states. Work to begin the transition will start this summer, although the release did not announce a specific date.
Eatwell market focused on organic and specialty items.
“As a company, we embrace trying new things and learning from our experiences to improve future store designs, operations, merchandising and marketing. Our teams at each Eatwell Market put their best foot forward to nourish the lives of their customers - making this a decision that was not made lightly,” Schnucks Chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck said in the release. “However, after significant analysis and evaluation of what we could do to make each store more successful during current economic conditions, we concluded the most prudent path forward would be the discontinuation of the Eatwell banner."
The Chesterfield location opened in 2023 and all 40 employees will be transferred to other St. Louis-area Schnucks locations, the release states.
