Columbia First Ward special election set for August

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
An election to fill the vacant First Ward seat on the Columbia City Council will take place in August.
The council voted Monday to place the election on the Aug. 6 ballot.
The First Ward seat is vacant after voters recalled former councilman Nick Knoth earlier this month. First Ward voters got the recall on the ballot with a petition, saying Knoth's day job as a lobbyist for realtors was a conflict of interest.
Anyone who wants to be a candidate must file a petition with at least 50 signatures from First Ward residents by 5 p.m. June 4. Petitions can be picked up at the city clerk's office and can be filed starting April 23.
