COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Schools will convene a special session of the board of education next week to consider new elementary school attendance areas.

The district is looking at three options ahead of the 6 p.m. April 17 meeting, according to an email to parents this week. The meeting will take place at the Aslin Administration Building.

The attendance area changes being reviewed next week represent Phase 1 of a three-phase redrawing of school lines.

  • One option for Phase 1 would move students from Fairview to Russell Boulevard elementary schools;
  • Another option would move some students from West Boulevard and Grant to Russell Boulevard;
  • And the third option would move students from Fairview to Russell Boulevard and from West Boulevard to Russell Boulevard.

The district has posted a map for residents to see which school's boundaries they would reside in under the different options and released a video breaking the options down. CPS is taking online feedback until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10.

CPS has created a webpage with more information about the attendance area changes.

Meetings for Phases 2 and 3 are set for May 7 and 8 at the Aslin building.
