Ice skating, fishing end at Columbia parks
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Ice skating and fishing at Columbia parks came to an end Tuesday.
Columbia Parks and Recreation cleared the lake at Stephens Lake Park for ice skating and the lake at Cosmo-Bethel Park for ice fishing a week ago as the ice became thick enough to support the weight. Since then, the deep freeze that put Mid-Missouri temperatures in the single digits and below zero has ended.
The city opens the lakes for winter sports when the ice depth reaches 4 inches. The parks department said Tuesday that the ice had receded below that threshold.
Signs have been posted at each lake, the city says.
