Naloxone education and distribution event to be held Thursday at church on Smiley Lane

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A naloxone education and distribution event will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at 1707 Smiley Lane, according to a Monday press release from the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services.

PHHS staff will also provide a brief training session for walk-ins from 6:30-7 p.m., the release states. No registration is required and participants will get a free box of NARCAN, the release states.

The event is part of a monthly series of that features education and training on the use of Naloxone -- also known by the brand name NARCAN -- a drug that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The training will include recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose as well as an explanation of how to use and access NARCAN nasal spray, according to the release.
