COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Sewer Utility is asking residents to weigh in on a planned sewer improvement project at Forest Hill Court and Ridge Road.

A public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Conference Room 1A/1B at Columbia City Hall. The public and stakeholders have the opportunity to review plans, ask questions and provide comment during the meeting. Input is also welcome through Nov. 22 at BeHeard.CoMo.gov.

The proposed project is to replace the privately maintained sewer system in that area with a public sanitary sewer. This is part of the Sewer Utility's Private Common Collector Elimination project, which began in 2008.

According to a news release from the city, "Private common collectors are major sources of inflow and infiltration of stormwater into the sewer system. By replacing the outdated, private sewers and connecting these properties into the publicly maintained sewer, the City can reduce the occurrence of backups and overflows."
