COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Roll carts are coming soon and Columbia residents can start picking their preferred trash cans next week, according to a Wednesday press release from the City of Columbia Solid Waste.

The City announced that trash collection customers will receive a postcard in the mail as early as Monday with a verification code to pick the size of the roll cast they want. According to the release, customers can log onto ColumbiaMo.rehrigvision1.com or call 573-874-2489 to make their pick – with a deadline of Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Solid Waste is transitioning to automated collection beginning March 4, 2024, according to the release. Roll carts are expected to be delivered to residents in February.

There is no charge for the cart itself; however, customers’ monthly rates are determined based on the size of the cart. Those who don’t make a pick will receive a 65-gallon cart.

Residents would have the option of a 35-gallon, 64-gallon or 95- gallon each varying in price:

  • 35-gallon: $12.87 per month
  • 65-gallon: $17.37 per month (current rate used by City customers)
  • 95-gallon: $22.50 per month

The decision to switch to an automated trash collection system was made during a March City Council meeting.
