Columbia holds ribbon-cutting ceremony for new fire station

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Columbia held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the columbia fire department's new station, Fire Station No. 11.

The new station – located at 6909 South Scott Boulevard -- will have three apparatus bays, a training center and a Columbia Police Department substation.

Columbia Fire Chief Clayton Farr Jr. spoke about the benefits of the new station.

"So this fire station is going to help with A: reducing our response time to Beulah Ralph elementary, Thornbrook Subdivision…those particular areas. It will also help keep Fire Station 6 and Fire Station 7 from having to come to this area and respond...keeping those trucks available for emergency response in their areas," Farr said.

The new station was paid for by a 2015 quarter-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax.
