A motorcyclist and a pedestrian were taken to a hospital for treatment after a crash shut down southbound Highway 63 in Columbia on Tuesday.

A motorcycle was involved in a crash and then a vehicle hit a pedestrian who was trying to help the motorcyclist, a Columbia Police Department spokesperson said. CPD did not have details of how the crash happened or how bad the injuries were.

In total, three people were taken to a hospital, said Columbia Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeffrey Heidenreich. One of them had injuries that were potentially life-threatening.

The crash closed down southbound Highway 63 at Vandiver Drive during the evening commute. Traffic was diverted onto an exit ramp.

The CPD spokesperson said officers continue to investigate and more information might be released later.
