COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Columbia’s 71st annual Fire in the Sky celebration will return to Stephens Lake Park this year for July 4.

The Independence Day celebration kicks off at 6:30 p.m., with the fireworks display beginning at 9:15 p.m. at the east side of the park, according to a press release from the City.

Many of Boone Hospital’s parking lots will be available for public use for the event, the press release states. Go COMO transit will provide a free shuttle service from 5-11 p.m. from all six City parking garages to the Boone Hospital parking lot.

Parking meters are not enforced on observed holidays, including Independence Day.

East Walnut Street will be closed to non-residential traffic that evening. Bike racks will be available for use.

Attendees are prohibited from bringing personal fireworks and grills; alcohol is strongly discouraged, the release states. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

The press release stated there will be children’s activities and crafts, food trucks and live music at the Stephens Lake Park Amphitheater. Entertainers will include Banastre Tarleton band, Allie Bruns and We B Friends.

More information can be found on the city’s website.
