Community members get first look at The Food Bank Market in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Members of the community got their first look today at the Food Bank of Central Missouri's new location on West Business Loop 70

Construction is still underway for the Food Bank Market, with the location expected to open this fall.

The food bank market will have more than 5,000 square feet of retail space. Compass Health will have space inside to provide primary and preventive care.

President and CEO Lindsay Lopez said this space will provide meals and be a centralized location for people in the community to get help.

"We're offering space for visiting services. We know that if you are lacking access to food, you need access to other services as well. And so we're serving 10,000 people per month on average,” Lopez said. “We are at the point at which we can really make those connections for the additional services that people need outside of food."

The total cost of the construction project is around $7 million.

The Food Bank on Thursday also announced a fundraising campaign to help fund the last $3.5 million.
