Columbia man accused of mutilating dog found guilty of animal abuse
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A 38-year-old Columbia man who was accused of mutilating his dog in 2022 was found guilty for animal abuse Wednesday.
A jury found Brandon Harris guilty of animal abuse. His sentencing is expected to occur in June, according to Boone County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Susan Boresi. He is being held at the Boone County Jail.
Boone County Sheriff's Office deputies were sent to Harris' home in the 7300 block of Moberly Drive on June 7, 2022, according to previous reporting.
Investigators said a caller, identified as Harris, reportedly told dispatchers he had cut off his dog's paw as a sacrifice. Deputies who arrived at the home said the dog's paw was found in a box.
Investigators said the dog was found alive in the basement missing part of its front left leg and paw. The dog was later brought to the Central Missouri Humane Society and given a new name.
Harris has another court date set for 1:30 p.m. Monday. In that case, he is charged with causing damage to the jail or jail property.
