CPD spokesman: Names of officers shown in Sunday video cannot be confirmed
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia Police Department spokesperson Christian Tabak says the department cannot confirm the names of the officers involved in an incident over the weekend.
ABC 17 News sent an email to the department listing two officers name that could possibly be involved but were told those names cannot be confirmed.
This comes after a video -- which began circulating online over the weekend -- showed a Columbia police officer punching a man in the face five times outside a Downtown Columbia bar early Sunday morning.
The two officers shown in the video have been placed on leave as the Columbia Police Department and Boone County Sheriff's Office investigates.
ABC 17 News asked the Department what led officers to South Tenth Street that morning, who the officers are and if they have prior suspensions.
Tabak said officers responded to a report of a disturbance, but what led up to the disturbance is still being investigated.
ABC 17 News went to the Columbia Police Department to look through the Department's media book that shows the location, the incident and what officers responded to the call.
But nothing from over the weekend is listed.
A reporter with ABC 17 News also went through the department's arrest report book to try to find the identity of the man being held down my officers in the video. An arrest report book shows a suspect's name, what they were arrested for and where.
However, nothing from South Tenth Street is listed but, other incidents from over the weekend are.
Tabak did provide the arrest report number for the incident, which ABC 17 News has made a records request to see.
