Rock Bridge High School student killed in crash on busy south Columbia road
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Rock Bridge High School student was killed Monday while riding a motorcycle on a busy south Columbia thoroughfare not far from the school.
The Columbia Police Department released that the student was traveling west on West Nifong Boulevard, when a driver in a ToyotaRav 4 was turning left. The motorcycle then hit into the passenger side of the vehicle, and was ejected from the motorcycle upon impact.
Police say the student was pronounced dead upon the scene.
Principal Jacob Sirna confirmed the student's death in a message sent Monday to families of students.
"News of the accident is traveling quickly among members of our community," Sirna wrote. "Words cannot express how difficult it is to lose one of our students. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the student’s family. As soon as we are able, we’ll send additional information to our families and student body."
The school didn't identify the student but said extra counseling resources were available for students and staff. RBHS leaders will share more information as it is available, Sirna wrote.
Police also identified the driver of the Rav4 as an adult male, and said that he was was unhurt in the crash
The crash was on Nifong at Baurichter Drive near the Bethel intersection.

The crash was on Nifong at Baurichter Drive near the Bethel intersection.
