Murder suspect brought back to Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A suspect charged in a 2020 murder who was arrested in Las Vegas is in the Boone County jail Thursday night.

Maurice Banks is charged with three felonies in connection with the death of Jermaine Spain in November 2020. He is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

The Boone County Prosecutor's Office also filed charges against another man after the deadly November 2020 shooting.

Prosecutors also charged Isaiah C. Brunson with second-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance last December in the connection with Spain's death.

Around 6 p.m. on Nov. 2, Spain was found by officers in the park after they responded to a report of a shooting. He was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds according to CPD.

Banks was arrested by US Marshals in May and was listed as an inmate in the Clark County Jail until Wednesday.

He had an initial arraignment in Boone County Jail Thursday afternoon. He is being held without bond in the Boone County Jail. Banks does not have a defense attorney listed according to online court records.
