COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A wrecker was called in to pull a school bus out of a ditch Tuesday morning on Clark Lane.

It wasn't immediately clear how the crash happened or who was on board the bus. Student Transportation of America -- which transports students under contract with Columbia Public Schools -- has a bus garage in that area. However, district spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark said the bus was not a Student Transportation of America or Columbia Public Schools bus.

Baumstark said the bus was passing through town on its way to Wichita, Kan.

The bus was pulled out of the ditch around 11:15 a.m. It took crews about an hour to free the vehicle.

A bus driver in the area told ABC 17 News that he believed no one was on the bus when it rolled into the ditch from a gas station parking lot. Columbia police said the crash happened in the 3500 block of Clark Lane.
