Deadly head-on crash closes Route K, Old Plank Road

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE:

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports, Joseph Richards, 34, of Columbia, was driving west on Route K when he approached a line of stopped cars and swerved across the center line. Tina Rains, 43, of Columbia was driving east on Route K when Richards swerved across the center line causing a head-on collision.

Rains was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is Troop F's second fatality for March and seventh for 2021.

A fatal head-on crash closed Route K and Old Plank Road on Friday evening.

Boone County emergency dispatchers sent a public alert about the crash a little after 5 p.m. A Boone County Fire Protection District spokesman said the two-vehicle crash required extrication and one person was killed.
