Columbia Water and Light spokesman Matt Nestor said equipment failure caused an early morning power outage.

The outage caused about 935 utility customers to lose power around central Columbia.

Shortly before 1 a.m., the power went out for hundreds of customers near Columbia College. Crews restored power by 4 a.m.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the utility provider's equipment to fail.
