Police say missing Columbia man found

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE: Columbia police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon that William Heggarty had been found and was unharmed.

ORIGINAL: Columbia police are asking the public for help finding a 77-year-old man reported missing Tuesday.

The Columbia Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an advisory for William J. Heggarty. Heggarty was last seen at 2400 Topaz Drive in west Columbia at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the alert.

Police say Heggarty is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 230 pounds, has gray hair and green eyes and was last seen wearing a blue shirt and dark pants. Heggarty might be on his way to St. Louis, according to the alert. He suffers from dementia.

Heggarty was driving a red Chrysler PT Cruiser with Missouri license plate number BE7W4P. The vehicle has several stickers on its back end, police say.

Police ask anyone with information to call 911, local law enforcement or CPD at 573-442-6131.
