Power restored for 1,300 Columbia Water and Light customers

UPDATE 9:22 P.M.: According to Columbia Power and Light, a tree fell on lines knocking out power for at least 1,300 people.

Power was restored just after 9 p.m.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Authorities warned drivers Tuesday afternoon of heavy traffic in the area of Forum and Stadium boulevards after traffic signals lost power.

Boone County emergency dispatchers sent out the alert at about 4:20 p.m. Columbia Water and Light crews were working to restore power, according to the alert.

The utility's online map reported a large outage along Stadium Boulevard and several smaller outages affecting more than 1,300 customers in all at about 4:30 p.m.

By about 6 p.m. the number of customers without power was down to about 340 clustered in neighborhoods along Chapel Hill Road.

The cause of the outages was not immediately known.
