Police investigate Douglass Park shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department is investigating after a man was shot at Douglass Park in central Columbia on Tuesday night.

Police responded to the scene around 8 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

When they arrived there were around 100 people in the area. Some were applying pressure to the victim's wounds.

A sergeant at the scene said that there were witnesses to the shooting but they would not tell police what led up to the shooting.

Police said that the man suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The shooter was described as a male wearing a white t shirt. He was last seen running east toward Circus Avenue.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation and had a helicopter circling the scene. Several troopers responded to the scene on foot as well.

Police also confirmed that two officers crashed at Sixth and Walnut while trying to respond to the shooting. The officers suffered minor injuries.
