Police investigate after man shot outside Columbia Mall

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man was shot at the Columbia Mall on Tuesday night, according to Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones.

Jones said the man was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Brittany Hilderbrand, a public information officer with the police department, said the shooting happened in the parking lot near Level Up. She said there were about 100 people inside the mall at the time of the shooting.

Columbia police, Boone County sheriff's deputies and troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene after 7 p.m.

Police are still looking for people and vehicles involved. Investigators are gathering more information and getting security footage, according to police.

ABC 17 News is working to confirm the extend of the man's injuries.
