COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 3-year-old boy died Wednesday after being hit by an SUV in a north Columbia driveway.

The Columbia Police Department said a 29-year-old woman was backing into a driveway in the 1300 block of Carolina Drive when the child ran into her GMC Yukon's path. The rear passenger side of the Yukon hit the child, police said.

The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.

The neighborhood is near the intersection of Brown School Road and Edenton Boulevard.

Police said in a news release that alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash.

The investigation continues, police said.
