Columbia police officers say human remains were found in northwest Columbia Tuesday night.

A release from the police department sent out Wednesday afternoon said the heavily decomposed remains were found near the intersection of I-70 Drive Northwest and Stadium Boulevard around 6:30 p.m.

According to the release, an individual reported the remains to the police. The remains have since been taken to the medical examiner's office, officers said.

As of Wednesday, the police department hadn't released a cause of death, nor an identity.

You are asked to call the police department or Crimestoppers at 573-875-TIPS if you have any information about the remains.
